The IRDA (Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority) has norms to restrict the misuse of health insurance and has segregated certain expenses that you may incur during hospitalization as non-medical expenses.
Some non-medical expenses are like cotton, bandages, spirit, disinfectant, registration/admission charges, etc.
Insurance companies are not obliged to compensate the same during settlement of the claim and the member will need to pay for these expenses.
