What is a maternity claim/cover?

Modified on Thu, 14 Jul 2022 at 10:25 AM

It provides coverage for the hospitalization expense that is incurred in the delivery of the baby whether normal or cesarean, up to the limit specified in the policy term.

It generally covers the expenses incurred 30 days before the delivery and 60 days post-delivery including both prenatal and postnatal expenses. It also provides coverage to the newborn baby for 90 days.

For example:

In the case of a Group Medical Cover(GMC) policy of Rs. 5,00,000. The maternity cover is of Rs. 1,00,000.

If the insured incurred an expense of Rs. 1,20,000 during the delivery of his/her baby. The GMC policy will provide a cover for Rs. 1,00,000 only as per the policy terms.

However, this cover does not include the cost of IVF treatment.
